Phoenix News: July 25th

Phoenix Fall in Opener:

As far as season openers go, it will be easy to go the tried and true MLB route and just say, it is just game 1.

Three innings into our first Rec Plex game, things were looking pretty good. The offense had put up 7 runs, the defense was putting away the simple outs. Even Phoenix Shortstop Dante Whitbeck performed a double play in the second.

But then, the bats grew cold and the defense of those innings.

Simply put, we are building a team to compete together for years, and this was only game 1. We will lace em up again on Monday.

Top Performers:

Eddie LeMay 2-2, 3 RBI

Dan Lowes 2-2, RBI

Lawrence Wallace, 1-2, 2 RBI

Phoenix look to put two teams in Salem:

After the organization had a large turnout to our original tryouts, we quickly decided that we would have two teams, each in a separate league. As time has gone on, interest has only gone up, and we are now looking to put two teams in our fall league at the Sandlots in Salem.

The reason we are doing this is simple, we do not mind having a bunch of teams playing at once. We will be asking a few of our Monday night players if they want to join a Friday night squad.

However, we still have room for new players. Believe me, if interest drives up, we are more than crazy enough to add another team, perhaps in a different league, somewhere else. So, in short, if you are looking to play softball this fall and want to grab onto a team, dont hesitate to contact us.

Phoenix Basketball Update:

Look for the Phoenix Basketball team to start holding tryouts and practices sometime in later August. Last year our team had some bright spots and we are looking to expand our reach in this area. Right now we are planning one team in Kenosha. Again, if we have an abundance of interest, we are interested in placing another team in another city.

Phoenix Flag Football Update:

The Phoenix have been contacted about joining up in an outdoor Flag Football League starting after Labor Day. We were hoping to get into an indoor league for the fall, yet there is a great deal of uncertainty as far as what can, or will happen as far as indoor sports go. There is a high likelihood of us playing in a fall flag league. We anticipate having one team, again in Kenosha.

If you have interest in anything we are doing, please contact the team on any of our social media outlets.
